Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Visual Arts: Studio is a production-oriented, studio art program directed toward individual development. The curriculum is designed for maximum flexibility to accommodate both those seeking advanced training in a particular studio area and those whose interests may involve more media cross-over. Graduates of the program will be prepared for careers as professional artists. The MFA is the terminal degree in Studio Art.

Application to the MFA in Visual Arts is a two-step process.

  • First, please complete an FIU Graduate Application form which can be completed online by clicking here. As part of this application, you will need to provide the following:
    • Certified college transcripts
    • Three (3) letters of recommendation – professional or academic
    • International and foreign graduated domestic applicants having earned an undergraduate degree in a foreign language: an IELTS score of 6.5, TOEFL score of 550 paper-based/80 internet-based, or  a total PTE score of 53 is required.
    • The Department of Art + Art History does not require GRE test scores.
  • Secondly, please upload the following to Get Acceptd (separate nominal fee charged by Get Acceptd):
    • Written statement of intent: creative work and goals for development while in the program (no more than 500 words)
    • Portfolio that includes 20 images (300 dpi, jpeg format)
    • CV

Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Visual Arts: Curatorial Practice Track reinforces the Department of Art + Art History’s commitment to exploring the links between practice and theory, and studio art and art history. It will prepare students to take a responsible and critical approach to the expanding role curators play in creating a vibrant cultural life in a post-millennial global society, which is increasingly being re-defined, re-drawn, and re-charted. The MFA is the terminal degree in Curatorial Practice.

Application to the MFA in Visual Arts: Curatorial Practice Track requires a similar, yet slightly different process:

  • First, please complete an FIU Graduate Application form which can be completed online by clicking here. As part of this application, you will need to provide the following:
    • Certified transcripts of all college level work;
    • Three (3) letters of recommendation from persons who are in a position to evaluate the applicant’s previous professional, academic, and personal performance, and his or her potential for success in the graduate program;
    • For international and foreign graduated domestic applicants whose language of instruction for the undergraduate degree was not English, an IELTS score of 6.5, TOEFL score of 550 paper-based/80 internet-based, or – beginning in Spring 2016 – a total PTE score of 53 is required.
    • Please note that the Department of Art + Art History does not require GRE test scores.
  • Secondly, please upload the following to Get Acceptd (separate nominal fee charged by Get Acceptd):
    • a 500-word description of goals and objectives for entering program;
    • a 1,000-word proposal in pdf form for a “dream” exhibition with images (lo-res is fine) you would like to realize; and
    • your CV.
