Leadership Fellows 2015 – 2016

On Friday, September 18, 2015, the Kopenhaver Center inaugurated its Leadership Fellows Program for the Fall 2015 – Spring 2016 academic year. The initial group of this mentorship initiative consists of 10 up-and-coming women working in media who have been paired with 10 veterans of the industry.

To further expand the leadership skills of the mentees, the center will host a series of workshops for their professional benefit. The inauguration-day event featured a presentation from the center’s own associate director for programming and research, Dr. Sigal Segev, and a workshop on “Developing Your Leadership Brand” from Dr. Mayra Beers, a James L. Knight Research Fellow and Director of Strategy for Florida International University’s Center for Leadership.

The SJMC’s own Knight Innovator in Residence, Mariana Santos, was invited on November 20, 2015, to present the program’s second workshop, “Embracing Technology for a Powerful Future.” Dr. Joyce J. Elam of FIU’s Office of Analysis and Information Management, will present “How to Change What You Do, Every Day, to Drive Innovation” on February 12, 2016.
