Katie R. Place (Ph.D., University of Maryland, 2010; M.A. Virginia Tech, 2003) is an assistant professor in the School of Communications and Department of Strategic Communication at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, where she teaches courses in public relations. Prior to joining the faculty at Quinnipiac in 2014, she was an assistant professor and PRSSA advisor in the Department of Communication at Saint Louis University from 2010-2014.

Dr. Place’s research examines the nexus of gender, power and ethics in public relations from critical and feminist perspectives. She has authored book chapters and peer-reviewed articles in Journal of Public Relations Research, PRism, Journal of Mass Media Ethics and Public Relations Inquiry. Her work has received numerous awards including Top Three Student Paper, Public Relations Division (NCA, 2007), PRSA Educator’s Academic Betsy Plank Top Graduate Student Paper Award (2008), Top Student Paper, Public Relations Division (AEJMC, 2010) and Top Faculty Paper, Commission on the Status of Women (AEJMC, 2011). Dr. Place currently resides on the editorial boards of Journal of Public Relations Research and Communication Booknotes Quarterly.

Dr. Place currently serves as the chairperson of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication’s (AEJMC) Commission on the Status of Women. Prior to returning to academia she worked in the public affairs and not-for-profit communications industries in the Washington, D.C. area.
