John Stuart will speak about “What it Means to be Human in an Ever more Digitized Age.”
John Stuart is Associate Dean for Cultural and Community Engagement in the FIU College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts, Executive Director of the Miami Beach Urban Studios and Director of the CARTA Innovation Lab for 3D-Printing, is a tenured Full Professor in the Department of Architecture at FIU where he has taught for over two decades. He is a futurist, innovator, designer and artist involved in collaborative research projects with funding from Van Alen Institute, The National Endowment for the Arts, The National Science Foundation, The National Endowment for the Humanities, The Knight Foundation, and The Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts. Stuart has produced three books and has lectured and taught widely in the United States on technology, architecture, design, urbanism, innovation, and identity, and is currently working on projects that point to new directions in interdisciplinary innovation and research that engage music, design, art and environmental sciences. This summer he was invited to be FIU’s representative in the newly-formed HP/EDUCAUSE International Research Consortium that includes Brown, Yale, MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Cornell and about a dozen other private institutions to explore Building the Campus of the Future: 3D Technologies in Academe.
