Panorama Travel Scholarship Endowment

(2) Student Scholarship Awards of $500.00 each for students in any CARTA department

The Panorama Travel Scholarship Endowment was established in 2016 by Panorama Travel to support study abroad programs in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Student must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher at the time of selection.
  • Recipients can be in any CARTA major, at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Funds are to be used to participate in a CARTA study abroad program.
  • Student must have a demonstrated record of community service.
  • Interested students must submit a one-page letter explaining the importance of foreign travel to their academic and professional career trajectories. This should be accompanied by at least one letter of recommendation from a professor who can attest to student’s academic potential.
  • Applications are due via the online portal at fiu.academicworks.com March 30, 2017. Scholarship awardees will be announced April 30, 2017. Funds will be dispersed in July 2017 for travel to be undertaken between May 1, 2017 and April 30, 2018.

 

The ASCAP Foundation Charlotte V. Bergen Scholarship

Awarded to the top ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer age 18 or under, this scholarship is supported by The Frank & Lydia Bergen Foundation and is named in memory their daughter, Charlotte, a lover of classical music. The scholarship is to be used for music study at an accredited college or music conservatory.

 

The American Berlin Opera Foundation, Inc.

Recent Graduates of the School of Music. Open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents aged 18 – 30 who have completed all schooling and are beginning their professional careers. Awardees receive a $15,000 stipend and round-trip flight to Germany to study at Deutsche Oper Berlin for 10 months (August –June.) Students will also receive honoraria for their roles in productions throughout the year.

 

Arleen Auger Memorial Fund

Open to pre-professional singers under 30, studying voice and with financial need, and a “sincere desire to pursue a vocal career similar to that of Ms. Auger.” Scholarships range from $500 to $2500 and are awarded based on a board of directors’ review.

 

Asian Cultural Council

For Asian students in the visual and performing arts seeking grants to conduct research, study, do specialized training or pursue creative activity in the U.S. The Council supports cultural exchange between Asia and the U.S.

 

L. Gillette Scholarship

For women in four-year undergraduate programs in literature or music. Two $1000 scholarships are awarded to deserving students.

 

Women’s Music Commission

Competition for female composers between 20 – 30 who are citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. The winner receives a $5,000 commission to create a new work. For each competition, the Foundation partners with a different world-class performer, ensemble or presenter, who presents the premiere performance.

 

The BMI Student Composer Awards

Competition for young (under 26 on last day of year before competition deadline) classical music composers from the Western Hemisphere in accredited public, private or parochial secondary schools, accredited music colleges or conservatories, or be in private study with established teachers.

 

The John Lennon Scholarship Program

Open to young (15 – 25) songwriters in any genre. Entries are solicited from a select group of schools and from the National Association for Music Education/MENC. Over $160,000 have been awarded in the last nine years.

 

The Donna Reed Foundation

High School Seniors applying to the School of Music. Open to U.S. citizen or permanent resident high school seniors. Applicants must submit a three-minute video and attend workshops held the third week of June in Donna Reed’s hometown of Denison, Iowa. Awards range from $1000-$2000.

 

Glenn Miller Birthplace Society

For graduating high school seniors or first-year college students who intend to make music a central part of their future. Two scholarships of $1200 and $2400 go to instrumentalists, with two others of $1000 and $2000 for vocalists.

 

National Federation of Music Clubs

For native-born or naturalized American citizens who are members (or become members) of the NFMC by individual or group affiliation before applications are accepted. The NFMC offers more than $750,000 in competition and award prizes.

The biennial Young Artist and Ellis Duo-Pianists competitions award a total of $50,000 in awards and two years of performance bookings.

 

PAS Armand Zildjian Percussion Scholarship

Open to full-time student percussionists enrolled in an accredited college or university of music. This annual $2000 award seeks to create more learning opportunities for today’s musicians in contemporary and classical music.

 

PAS Hudson Music Drumset Scholarship

Offered to a full-time student in an accredited college or university school of music. These annual $1000 scholarships are supported by proceeds from sales of Hudson Music’s “Classic Jazz” series DVDs.

 

The PAS/Remo, Inc. Fred Hoey Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming college freshman percussionist enrolled in the School of Music at an accredited college or university. This $1000 annual scholarship honors Fred Hoey, author, clinician and percussion industry innovator.

 

PAS/Sabian, Ltd. Larrie Londin Memorial Scholarship

Offered to promising drummers in honor of Larrie Londin, one of the world’s leading studio drummers. A total of $3000 is awarded annually.

 

PAS/Yamaha Terry Gibbs Vibraphone Scholarship

Offered to full-time students (must be PAS members) in an accredited college or university school of music, this $1000 scholarship is awarded each year in honor of legendary jazz vibraphonist Terry Gibbs.

 

String Letter Publishing

Open to students who play the violin, viola, cello or bass, have financial need, academic merit and a record of community service. This $3000 scholarship is offered each year.

 

Gladys Stone Wright Scholarship

Open to female college students studying instrumental music and aspiring to be band directors. Five $300 scholarships are offered each year by Women Band Directors International – three for upperclassmen, and one scholarship open to all levels–freshmen to graduate students.

 

CFJS Scholarships

Offered to high school seniors or students in the first three years of college studying jazz music.

 

Triennial Awards (Convention Year)

Offered to undergraduate members of Sigma Alpha Iota for instrumentalists and vocal performance. Four $1,500 scholarships will be awarded based on taped auditions in Voice; Keyboard and Percussion; Strings; Winds and Brass. Winners perform at a Mini-Musicale at the National Convention.

 

Musicians with Special Needs Scholarship

Open to undergraduate or graduate music student members of Sigma Alpha Iota with sensory or physical impairment. Each chapter may nominate one senior member for one of 12 scholarships at $1500 and three Holt winners at $2000.

 

Conducting Scholarship for Graduates

Offered to graduate student (emphasis in conducting) members of Sigma Alpha Iota. Applications must include a videotape of a performance to be eligible for this $2500 award.

 

Jazz Studies Scholarship

Open to Sigma Alpha Iota members in good financial standing. This $1500 scholarship must be applied to a music degree with an emphasis in Jazz Studies.

 

Music Education for Graduate Students

Offered to Sigma Alpha Iota members who have completed a Music Education undergraduate degree or have been accepted into an accredited masters or doctoral degree in Music Education. This $1500 scholarship is in memory of Mabel Biever.

Applicants should have at least one year of teaching experience in a private or public school. In lieu of experience, students may include a video of student teaching experience with references from the students’ professor and student teacher advisor.

 

Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship

Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child Psychology, Film, Television Production, Music or Animation. Available to juniors, seniors and graduate students at accredited colleges or universities who show a commitment to working in children’s media. These $10,000 awards will support research on the relationship between children’s use of media and learning.
