How to Apply

UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION

Step 1

Apply for Admission to Florida International University:

Apply to the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts Through GetAcceptd:

  • Upload your prescreening materials. If you pass this pre-screening process you will be invited to a live audition.
  • Organized auditions are held three times per year, but can be scheduled at other times throughout the year upon request. Upcoming audition dates include: November 18, 2023 | February 17, 2024 | and March 16, 2024.
  • Deadlines for application close two weeks before the auditions except the February audition date.
  • Theory and history placement tests will be given during organized audition days.

Apply for Scholarships:

  • There are a number of University-wide and music scholarships available to students. Anyone interested in receiving university-wide scholarships, federal grants, work study, or loans must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Visit the Financial Aid webpage for more information.
  • Applicants who wish to be considered for University merit-based scholarships need to be admitted to FIU by the November audition date.
  • Visit the Music Scholarships Page for detailed descriptions of available School of Music scholarships and access to the online application. Students must have a 3.0 GPA to be considered.

A Minor in Music is available to non-majors who wish to continue formalized study in music and build music into their lives and deepen their knowledge and musical experiences.

FAQ’s

Who is required to audition, and how are auditions scheduled?

All undergraduate applicants are required to audition to enter the Wertheim School of Music. Auditions are scheduled via our prescreening audition portal (these words could link to GetAcceptd). Applicants who secure BOTH their FIU application and Wertheim School of Music application by October 1 are generally able to secure their first-choice audition date, but requests are honored on a first-come, first-served basis.

Is a prescreening recording required?

Prescreenings are required for every degree program in the Wertheim School of Music.

Prescreenings are required by October 15 and results released by November 1 for November auditions. Prescreenings are required by January 15 and results released by January 30 for February auditions. Prescreenings are required by February 15 and results released by February 28 for March auditions. Applicants who submit a completed application and are successful in this first round will be invited to campus for a full audition.

How do I apply for a Minor in Music?

Auditioning for the music minor also requires a successful audition. Repertoire requirements are generally identical to the requirements for music majors. Students who wish to apply for a minor in music should contact music@fiu.edu for questions to the application process. The application may be found on our Minors Application Submission Form here.
