Sandra Sanchez Adorno is a visiting assistant professor of music education at Florida International University. A native of Florida, she holds degrees in music education from the University of Florida (B.A.) and the University of Miami (M.M., Ph.D.). Sandra was most recently a visiting assistant professor at Stetson University where she directed the music education program and taught courses in general and instrumental music methods, assessment, classroom management, and arts integration. Prior to her appointment at Stetson, she was an adjunct professor of music education at FIU and teaching assistant at the University of Miami.

Sandra has worked as a general music teacher for Palm Beach County Schools, Frost Music Reach, and the Stetson University Community School of Music and continues to serve as a workshop clinician for in-service and pre-service music educators in and around the state of Florida. She is certified in Smithsonian Folkways World Music Pedagogy and Orff Levels I, II, and III from the San Francisco International Orff Course and has attended intensive workshops in Dalcroze Eurhythmics and Modern Band.

Sandra’s research interests include children’s musical cultures, musical identity development and expression, and music teacher reflection. She has presented her work at regional, national, and international levels including state conferences in FL, SC, and PA, the Desert Skies Research Symposium, the NAfME Music Research National Conference, the Society for Music Teacher Education National Conference, and the International Conference on Musical Cultures. She is published in Reverberations: Teachers Teaching Teachers, Florida Music Director, and Smithsonian Folkways’ Tools for Teaching.
