The Department of Theatre at Florida International University, located in the colorful, culturally diverse, alpha-world city of Miami, is dedicated to the training of the next generation of leaders. A curriculum that blends intensive studio classes with an expansive menu of liberal arts courses prepares students to think critically and creatively, training them to be quality artists and global citizens who are perpetually curious about the human condition. Faculty, composed of top-flight working professionals, teachers, and scholars, bring to light a variety of techniques and approaches that are explored in class, as well as in award-winning productions that range from classical to new, genre-defying plays. In addition to premium faculty instruction, students receive various opportunities to work with superior guest artists from around the world. Further, the department–which is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre–continues to expand its notable relationships with established and developing theatres and institutions, such as Coconut Grove Theatre, MiND, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, and the Michael Chekhov Association.
Through rigorous professional training and ambitious creative activity, the teacher-artists of Florida International University Theatre are committed to developing artists who are engaged critical thinkers driven to enhance the intellectual, aesthetic, and cultural life of the university, city, and world at large.
Florida International University Theatre will achieve national and international recognition through its expertise in creative, innovative, and inspirational production, scholarship, and pedagogy.
