The College of Communication, Architecture + the Arts (CARTA) at Florida International University is committed to the education of our next cultural leaders, performers and creators through our Visual and Performing Arts program. Our college consists of a comprehensive arts program, containing the major art forms of Art + Art History, Theatre, and School of Music.

At FIU CARTA, we strive to advance Miami’s artistic and cultural landscape by implementing a curriculum intended to develop the students’ theatrical, vocal, instrumental, and creative arts skills working side by side with our professional and renowned faculty.

SCHOOL OF MUSIC

The School of Music at Florida International University in Miami, Florida is an extraordinary place in an extraordinary city where students and faculty participate in a dynamic culture of music. An intimate school, we offer individualized training to 250 undergraduate and graduate students in a nurturing atmosphere that allows for each student’s individual artistry and intellect to develop and blossom.

ART + ART HISTORY

The FIU Art + Art History Department provides a sanctuary for the development of new visions, ideas, and techniques. Studio art majors will have the opportunity to work in a wide variety of disciplines acquiring basic and advanced skills while exploring a wide range of new possibilities. Art Education majors go through a rigorous program of study which includes studio practice, theoretical and pedagogical training.

THEATRE

FIU Theatre is uniquely situated in a major global city distinguished by cultural diversity and a vibrant arts scene. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST), the department’s primary purpose is to immerse students in the practical work of theatre production while familiarizing them with world theatre history, criticism, literature, theory, and analysis.
