What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking an Undergraduate Year-Round Intern to join our dynamic team! Are you studying architecture and have a desire to learn more about facilities and assist in campus corporate standards, specifications, and initiatives? Are you familiar with LEED or have a desire to learn more about sustainability, and preventative maintenance? We are seeking a proactive, self-starting architect intern with the desire to learn and assist on various levels. Work will include assisting the Systems Corporate Architect and Systems Engineering group with specifications, corporate standards, researching materials and products for longevity, durability, availability, and compliance with sustainable product content (DEAR and FAR). The candidate shall demonstrate the ability to communicate and interact with various disciplines including, but not limited to mechanical, electrical, structural and controls engineers as well as managers as required for investigating products and materials approved by engineers, custodial staff, and maintenance.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Draw sketches in Revit, Sketch Up or Adobe software for conveying design ideas
- Work in Excel to prioritize work to be executed across the site
- Assist with life cycle asset management plans (LCAMP)
- Assist with research of products and materials with input from maintenance, custodial, and other engineers, or interior designers or tactical planners for feasibility
- Assist with designs, and new processes, products, or systems for implementing and integrating optimal facilities support solutions
- Assist with space and or furniture reconfigurations as needed
- Work and assist on roof prioritizations
- Assist with site visits of new construction, reviewing submittals and specifications
- Conduct roof observations when needed and participate in monthly roofing committee meetings

Qualifications We Require
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited undergraduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- U.S. citizenship
Qualifications We Desire

- Currently enrolled in an architectural program
- Ability to work on-site at the Sandia campus in Albuquerque
- Proficient in Sketch UP and CAD program(s) either ACAD, MicroStation, and/ or Revit
- Ability to work with a variety of engineering disciplines
- Working knowledge of Excel, Adobe software suite including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator
- Experience with 3D computer drafting software, ACAD, Micro Station, Sketch Up and / Revit
- Demonstrated ability to learn and willingness to work independently with some guidance
- Ability to organize and plan work tasks
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
Open to ideas and brain storming for group work or meetings.

The Building Systems Engineering Department (4851) is comprised of subject matter experts in building systems and energy management. The department develops lifecycle asset management plans and standards and specifications that direct maintenance and construction work in Sandia National Laboratories buildings.

Security Clearance
