We are seeking an Intern Estimator to join our team. An Intern will learn all the aspects around construction projects. They will utilize Take-off and cost calculations to determine how much it will cost T&T Construction to complete a project or when providing products and services to its vendors/clients. This includes labor, material, time, and equipment requirements, to determine the overall cost of the projects. The ideal intern will do this by researching bidders, vendors, and the costs of the materials, transportation, labor, and equipment involved.
Intern qualifications working under the supervision of the Chief Estimator:
Ø Working toward a degree in Construction management, Engineering, or related field (i.e., architecture).
Ø Junior or senior standing at university/college.
Ø Availability of working at least 15 hours a week (max 29 hours or less if mandated by university internship requirements). Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30am-5:30pm, minimum 3-hour shift per day.
Ø Attendance in weekly department meetings on Mondays at 9 am for a duration of 1 hour. Attendance may be in-person or remote via Microsoft teams.
Ø Basic understanding of accounting and estimating concepts.
Ø Basic knowledge of construction industry.
Ø Basic understanding of research methodology, data analysis, and estimating metrics.
Ø Basic experience with complex data research activities.
Ø Basic understanding of data analysis methods and key construction performance metrics (KPI’s).
Ø Experience with Microsoft suite.
Ø Familiarity with computer programs such as Sage Estimating and HCSS, preferred but not required.
Ø Familiarity with Takeoff Software preferred, but not required.
Ø Attentive to detail.
Ø Time-management capability.
Ø Ability to multi-task.
Ø Well-organized and reliable.
Ø Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Responsibilities when hired:
Ø Exploring documentations to gain a deep understanding of the project requirements.
Ø Research the cost of items, such as materials, transportation, labor, and equipment.
Ø Attend pre-bid meetings to assess project requirements for the management team.
Ø Communicate with regional leadership for suggested local vendors that can supply key materials and services to proposed project locations.
Ø Analyze bid documents including Geotech Reports and Civil Drawings for unique site conditions that may hinder access for our scope, and potentially impacting costs.
Ø Carefully review concrete construction schedules, task durations, and start dates.
Ø Request schedules from the clients if they aren’t provided in the bid documents.
Ø Establish and maintain relationships with contractors and vendors.
Ø Secure quotes from suppliers and contractors within a specified time frame.
Ø Confirm that suppliers have location, capacity, service hours, and resources to properly service our projects.
Ø Perform complex quantity take-off with help of plans and specifications.
Ø Interpret and analyze contract documents, specifications, and prepare proposals.
Ø Assess the risk levels associated with a project and discuss with manager.
Ø Liaison, consult, and communicate with engineers, architect, owners, contractors.
Ø Maintain bid log every week with latest updates from client.
Ø Prepare and submit proposal with required details, including cost breakdown to clients.
Ø Create bid tab sheet reports for upper management to review prior to bid submittal.
Ø Assist with bid for new clients and support the activities of buyers.
Ø Compile and organize material takeoffs and project data (including site conditions).
Ø Build and maintain long-term relationships with the key vendors.
Ø Manage estimating deadlines and utilize bid calendar for all upcoming assignments.
Ø Maintain bid tracking with general contractors after sending proposal.
Ø Connect and prompt with client services.
Ø All other duties as assigned by Chief Estimator.
