CAD Designer

Summary

The CAD Designer is responsible for producing high quality, detailed and accurate design & construction documents – working on all phases of development including Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents and Construction Administration. As a contributing member of a diverse design & engineering team, the CAD designer will be responsible for inter-departmental collaboration & coordination with other designers, contractors and project managers.

Essentials

Responsible for creating wiring layout diagrams & dimensioned installation details – used by low voltage, electrical & millwork contractors – to architecturally integrate complex audiovisual, motorized shade, lighting control & building automation systems for residential and commercial projects.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design & produce low voltage wiring and conduit layout diagrams in AutoCAD
  • Layout of electrical equipment and lighting control systems
  • Draft sections & installation details for integrated motorized shading systems
  • Calculate and communicate specified system technical requirements
  • Maintain equipment spec reference guides
  • Receive, edit & re-issue “redlined” drawings to accurately track changes

  • Operate, maintain & develop efficient CAD drafting systems and studio methods
  • Execute detailed drawings & produce accurate deliverables on simultaneous projects

  • Collaborative & curious design style – willing to learn new skills and niche technical systems
  • Interest in research & development of architecturally integrated electronics & control systems 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Lighting Design, or Industrial Design
  • 3+ years in an architectural design, design-build, or interior custom fabrication field – with a focus on luxury residential projects & lighting design applications
  • Creative and strategic problem solver; considering alternatives and ideal strategies that adjust to site conditions & technical limitations
  • Organized, systematic and thorough – accurate with information and communication
  • Thrives in a dynamic, collaborative team environment on multiple fast-moving projects 

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret construction industry documents such as technical specifications, Lighting fixture data sheets, and installation procedure manuals
  • Ability to read & interpret architectural construction trade documents, including MEP drawings
  • Corresponds professionally with other team members via internal chat apps & external client-facing email
  • Converses in architectural construction jargon with designers, contractors, electricians & technicians
  • Spanish language skills are a plus
