The Department of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Alabama invites applicants for a full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for the Interior Architecture and Design (IAD) program beginning in August 2023.

The program holds accreditation from the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Initial review of applications will begin on January 30, 2023 and continue until the position is filled.

Essential job duties include: Strong commitment to excellence in teaching; Develop a strong research portfolio, which includes ongoing scholarly work that incorporates undergraduate students; Be willing to take an active role in curriculum development and program assessment; Be knowledgeable of current trends in the field; Be committed to the engagement and recruitment of students; Be willing to work as a collegial team member as well as a community resource when appropriate.  

Faculty are expected to contribute to the overall operation of the University, provide service at the Department, College, and/or University level, honor University policies and procedures, and support the University’s mission by acting as an ambassador of the Interior Architecture and Design program. This position has a standard teaching load of three studio classes per semester (18 contact hours).

 

Education and experience requirements include: MFA or PhD in teaching disciplines of Interior Design, Interior Architecture & Design, or related field is required; Strong potential for scholarly research/creative performance, and innovative teaching in undergraduate courses is required; Teaching experience is preferred; NCIDQ certification is preferred or qualified and willing to take the exam at the time of appointment; Preference may be given to candidates who have significant professional work experience in the field of interior design; proficiency in free-hand sketching, Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe, and rendering programs; LEED-accredited or WELL certified professional; and relevant teaching experience including upper-level design studios; and familiarity with CIDA accreditation guidelines is preferred.
