The Summer Fellowship is a 12-week research- and representation- focused program in which students are immersed in a specific research project that engages the office’s work and intellectual preoccupations. Applicants will apply to one of the three research prompts listed within the application with a one-paragraph response that explains why they are interested in this topic, and how it relates to their past, current, and potential body of work. Applicants from across disciplines, including architecture, building science, and urban design and planning, are encouraged to apply. The Fellowship is structured around a 12-week period from roughly the end of May through August, with the exact dates to be finalized with the selected candidate.
The Fellowship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who plan to return to school in the fall. Strong communication and representation skills, as well as a self-starting and inquisitive nature, are highly valued. Prior experience with self-guided or small-team research is also valuable.
Utile is interested in highly motivated candidates who are prepared to contribute to our commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in our office. Members of communities who have been historically underrepresented in architecture, including women, 2SLGBTQIA+ people, Black, Indigenous, and people of color are encouraged to apply. This position is available as either a hybrid or fully in-person position to be based primarily at our Boston office.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, portfolio (no more than 10mb), and one-paragraph research topic response via the application portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through 3/19/23 at the latest, so students are encouraged to apply early! Please email jobs@utiledesign.com with any questions.
