Are you interested in joining the largest employee-owned company in the United States? Are you detail oriented with knowledge of architectural design, building codes, and ADA requirements? We are seeking a Senior Architectural Designer to join our Facilities Design team!
As a member of the design team you are responsible for documenting cost effective, efficient and code compliant designs for building construction, which meet functional and aesthetic requirements set by corporate direction. This includes planning, directing, and developing Architectural and/or Engineering design projects of all sizes and complexities.
The responsibilities listed on this position analysis are not intended to be all-inclusive and additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Additional responsibilities include:
- designing and drawing construction documents that are accurate, code compliant and consistent with Publix design standards utilizing Computer Aided Drafting Design (CADD) software, geometry, trigonometry, and similar basic mathematical functions
- ensuring that all design criteria received from Publix customers (senior management, retail business units, support units, etc.) are incorporated into the project design
- identifying and presenting design alternatives as practical for consideration.
- identifying, reconciling, and documenting design scope conflicts with the concurrence of the appropriate Publix personnel and presenting design alternatives for consideration
- resolving code reviews and violations by performing preliminary code reviews of the design and revising the final design as necessary throughout the life of the project
- inspecting and documenting existing project conditions where applicable
- providing input for the preparation of work schedules and staffing plans to complete the project within the approved budget and timeline
- identifying, discussing, and resolving design conflicts with architectural and engineering staff (internal and external to Publix)
- maintaining an ongoing review of the work in progress to ensure quality, accuracy, and coordination with other disciplines
- conducting in complete cross-discipline design reviews at the appropriate designated times in the design process
- communicating with the architectural team, engineering team and Senior Management to provide updates, progress on projects and communicate new store design concept direction or change to the remodel design team
- working cross-functionally with Retail Business Units, Construction, external Architects and Engineers, and Facilities Purchasing to resolve any design related problems, concerns or conflicts during the design and construction process
- guiding, training, and developing other junior level designers, drafters, and other staff to improve their knowledge and experience.
- researching, reviewing, and approving building product submittals to ensure appropriate building materials, components and infrastructure requirements are used in building construction
Required qualifications:
- Education: High School diploma or its equivalent with two years drafting instruction and 6 years of work related experience in the design field OR two-year post high school certificate in design related discipline or Technical/Trade school and 4 years of work related experience in the design field OR Bachelor’s Degree in related design field and 2 years of experience in the design field
- Basic skills with Microsoft Windows Operating System
- CADD experience
- Knowledge of Architectural Design, Building Codes, and ADA requirements
- Knowledge of Construction means and methods
- Knowledge of Corporate Quality Improvement (CQI) methodology
- Knowledge of financial and cost analysis information
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelors’ Degree in Architecture or Engineering related field
- 4 years of experience in a design related field
- Drafting experience in Revit and AutoCAD programs
- Knowledge of Publix Super Market retail business operations
- Knowledge of Publix validated equipment and design standards
