The ArtCenter/South Florida recently announced its 2018 recipients of the inaugural Ellies Visual Arts Awards. Over 500 local artists and art educators submitted applications to these competitive art awards and forty-four winners were selected.
Eleven of the forty-four recipients were faculty and alumni from Florida International University’s College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA). The winners were honored during a ceremony at the Bass Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami Beach, FL on Wednesday, October 24, 2018.
Amongst the CARTA winners were Leo Castaneda and Fereshteh Toosi, two faculty members from the Department of Art + Art History, Raymond Elman, Editor-in-Chief of INSPICIO magazine and eight alumni from the Department of Art Education and Art.
The Ellies Awards were created earlier this year in honor ArtCenter founder, Ellie Schneiderman. The art awards recognize and elevate the careers of Miami’s visual artists and allow them to produce of new work or provide travel grants for art educators.
This year the winners of will share a grand total of $491,00 funded by a sale of one of ArtCenter’s buildings. Awards were judged by a jury of independent art experts in the Miami arts scene. Below read more about the CARTA honorees.
