Position Details

Our staff are hired in a few different roles, detailed below for open Fine Arts Positions.

  • Classroom Instructor & Bunk Counselor: The majority of our staff will be hired in this role. Our Instructor/Counselors live in a bunk with a co-counselor and take care of a group of campers. During the day, Instructor/Counselors will teach during 3 of the 4 class periods, with one block of time reserved for their prep period. Classroom instructors will teach alongside another staff member, making this a great role for someone looking to gain some tangible teaching experience. Outside of class time, Instructor/Counselors take part in all the fun of camp life, leading their campers. From silly evening activities to exciting all camp events, we rely on our Bunk Counselors to keep campers happy, healthy, and thriving.
  • Lead Instructor: We will hire a smaller team of Lead Instructors to be the experts in the classroom! Our Lead Instructors have experience teaching in the classroom or in private lessons, and will oversee the curriculum planning and execution, in conjunction with the Department Head. Lead Instructors do not live in bunk, but rather in community staff housing, or private housing. Lead Instructors teach all 4 class periods each day, and take their prep period during Afternoon Free Choice. Outside of classroom time, Lead Instructors take part in camp activities and special events, leading evening workshops or studios. Lead Instructors assist the Support and Leadership Teams with evening supervision, and special events, throughout the summer. These positions are marked with an *.
  • Bunk Counselor/Support Team: Sometimes we meet an incredible applicant who we know would be an amazing bunk counselor, but might not have the experience or background to teach in one of our departments. For these staff members, we’ve created our support team. Support Counselors live in bunk just as their Counselor/Instructor counterparts, but spend the classroom portion of the day working on a Support Team, supporting the general operations of the camp program. The Support Team is broken down into three committees – Special Events/Activities, Housekeeping/Laundry, and Maintenance/Operations. These roles are limited, and fill up quickly!
  • Little Appel Counselor: The Little Appels are campers, ages 1-6, whose parents are a part of the Appel Farm staff. Some live on-site, while others might commute in with Lead Instructor parents. The Little Appel Staff oversee the care and curriculum of our Little Appel Program, and report to our Assistant Camp Director. Little Appel Counselors work the same hours as the rest of the staff (8:00am – 11:00pm) but have an alternate time off structure during the day. Little Appel Staff follow the same day and night off schedule as the rest of the staff.
  • Leadership Team: Our Leadership Team oversees the Program Departments and Bunk Areas on camp, and report to the Camp Directors. If you are interested in a Leadership position, please let me know before our interview. These positions are marked as **.
  • Healthcare Team: Nurses live and work on camp for 1-4 two-week session, providing healthcare for 225 and 90 staff members. Nurses may earn camperships for camp-aged children in addition to or in lieu of a salary.
