Dance Instructor

Houston Christian High School (HC) is accepting applications for the full-time position of Dance Instructor to begin in August 2021. This position reports to the Performing Arts Department Chair and Principal and works in collaboration with other Visual and Performing Arts Teachers. Experience in teaching different levels of Dance is preferred and/or department leadership is beneficial. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, in Education, Dance or other relevant area, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Teacher certification or equivalent required.
  • Classroom Experience (Experience in a high school classroom.)
  • A wide range of choreography and instruction experience in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern and Contemporary, Hip Hop, Novelty, World and Social Dance is strongly preferred.
  • Staging, lighting, and cleaning experience is beneficial.
  • Excellent verbal, visual, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in basic technology applications, electronic grade book and curricular software and hardware) (i.e. MS Word, Excel). Google Apps knowledge is beneficial (i.e. Google Drive, Google Docs, Gmail).
  • Represent the school to the community and prospective students.
  • Committed to the mission and values of Houston Christian High School. 

Qualified candidates must be skilled to provide Dance instruction, run an effective recruiting program, and be flexible to work with other Fine Arts personnel. Candidates should also possess excellent communication skills, a willingness to mentor students and the ability to incorporate 21st Century Skills into the curriculum. The successful candidate will be energetic, creative, and possess a vision for excellence in Performing Arts at the high school level. A strong work ethic, a desire to achieve success, and a commitment to ongoing professional growth is necessary. Contribution to the life of the school outside the classroom is expected. Occasional after school, evening or weekend hours will be necessary. Some travel may be required.
