Job Summary *

The Transportation and Equity Ambassador Leader (Leader) will work to launch the Ambassador Program for Walk Bike Nashville, an organization working to create a more walkable, bikeable, and liveable Nashville for working-class communities.

The Transportation and Equity Ambassador Leader serves with a 30-member cohort of community-focused individuals who receive skills training, professional development, and networking opportunities through a partnership between Walk Bike Nashville and Hands On Nashville, Middle Tennessee’s volunteer resource center.

 

The Hands On Nashville AmeriCorps program is made possible through the support of the Dan and Margaret Maddox Fund, Volunteer Tennessee, and participating AmeriCorps host organizations.

Job Responsibilities *

Walk Bike Nashville is looking for a bilingual, creative, and motivated Leader who will spearhead the Ambassador Program to recruit working-class and immigrant participants and build working-class leadership focused on transportation, accessibility, and equity along the vibrant Murfreesboro Road corridor.

WBN values lived experience and highly encourages those who have used public transit, walking, and biking as their main forms of transit to apply. The agency seeks a candidate who is action-oriented and people-focused. The candidate will learn skills in popular education workshops, grassroots base-building, language justice and accessibility, and transportation equity through this program.

·      Launch the Ambassador Leadership Development Program for public transit and non- auto-dependent Nashville residents. The Ambassador Program (AP) prioritizes Black, Indigenous, and communities of color. The AP will be a very collaborative program with our Community Education initiatives.

·      Train local leaders on mobility justice principles through popular education-style workshops and presentations.

·      Coordinate events such as bike rides, neighborhood walks, and how to use public transit trainings, among other community activities.

·      The Leader will asses community needs and propose trainings and workshops based on input.

·      Assess language needs and create a language justice proposal for organizational implementation.

·      Create educational materials focused on public transit, mobility, walking and biking rights.

·      Creatively engage diverse groups of people to further WBN’s reach.

 

Qualifications

 

The Hands On Nashville AmeriCorps Program is designed for entry-level or experienced professionals interested in a career in nonprofit management. You have amazing skills. We will teach you how to put them to work for the greater good.

Minimum Requirements

·       Commitment to fulfill a one-year term of service (August 16, 2021 – July 29, 2022)

·       High School Diploma/GED;Experience can be accepted in lieu of education;

·       Reliable access to transportation (Members will be reimbursed for service-related mileage.)

·       U.S. Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident

·       National Service Criminal History Check clearance
