Organization Overview
Breach The Surface, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and rehabilitation of marine environments. Incorporated in 2019, Breach The Surface has introduced an array of programs ranging from art-ivism efforts with local school groups to collecting and studying microplastic pollution in Tampa Bay.
Breach The Surface engages a wide diversity of communities in marine conservation. With the help of our partners at FYCCN, REI, Home Depot, Coastal Creative, The Tampa Bay Estuary Program, and more we are able to advance our reach to those most disenfranchised in our community. Together, with other community leaders, Breach The Surface raises awareness on the mistreatment, abuse, and negligence foreseen in our local bays, gulfs, and oceans.
Florida 501(c)(3) Breach The Surface is a state-based organization formed to address marine bound threats including plastic pollution, coral bleaching, agricultural runoff, finning, and all other human bound threats to our oceans.
The Florida 501(c)(3) Breach The Surface nonpartisan mission is to encourage policies that vouch for healthier oceans and provide resilience to communities threatened by climate change and sea level rise.
Position Overview
The Internship aims to engage students in marine conservation efforts through an array of research, facilitation, data collection, and political advocacy efforts.
Primary Functions
The program objectives are:
- Co-facilitate educational programs and lesson plans for local school groups and clubs.
- Partnership development, non-profit operations, donor relations, communication, marketing and promotions, data management, event planning, and public speaking.
- Track and analyze field data including marine debri data, volunteer data, and program deliverables.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess many, if not all, of the following qualifications:
- Willingness to learn and educate others.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills in person, on the phone, and in writing.
- Knowledge of state-level policy is a plus.
- Knowledge in environmental sciences (especially marine) is a plus.
- Be able to perform outdoors, sometimes under direct sunlight or light rain.
- A commitment of 12 hours per week.
- A strong commitment to marine conservation.
Term of Employment: 14 weeks
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
Other: Intern, must supply their own computer and internet access.
Location: This is a virtual position and must be based in Florida.
