POSITION OVERVIEW:

Come work at TED-Ed, TED’s acclaimed education initiative, and help us bring high-quality educational materials to the world for free. To date, TED-Ed’s original animations have been viewed over three billion times, and TED-Ed’s programs, products and services have been adopted by millions of students, teachers and educational organizations throughout the world. We’re looking for a curious, collaborative and detail-oriented problem-solver to help support our relatively small, high-performing team.

TED-Ed is looking for a design and social media intern to help us with the creation of visual assets, as well as the growth and engagement of our social media channels. The responsibilities associated with this job are derived from and contribute to the wider TED-Ed content goals. The candidate should be comfortable working within creative constraints and be familiar with effective visual communication. 

Joining our team in this role is a great way to get real-world experience executing design briefs, coming up with creative visual solutions, and working collaboratively toward a common goal. You’ll get to practice incorporating feedback, not just from an upbeat, solutions-oriented team, but also from the data created by millions of curious people who will engage with your work daily. QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • Able to commit 20 hours / week during East Coast working hours – 10am EST to 6pm EST
  • Pursuing or pursued a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a focus on design and / or visual marketing with an understanding of design principles and the ability to follow a brief and adjust designs based on feedback.
  • Experienced Adobe Design Suite user, especially Photoshop and Illustrator. Experience with Canva is also a plus.
  • Interest and experience working with social media platforms, especially Instagram
  • Excellent communicator with a positive, self-starter attitude
  • Detail-oriented with great time management skills
  • Has a willingness to try and fail and try again
  • Knowledge of and passion for TED-Ed

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Thumbnail and asset creation

  • Use TED-Ed’s marketing learnings to re-design 3 thumbnails/week for animations in the TED-Ed archive that need to be updated. 
  • Create static design assets for marketing campaigns for our social media, product and programs teams.
  • Create digital wallpapers as well as coloring book pages from TED-Ed animations to be shared with our Patreon patrons on a monthly basis.  

Instagram 

  • Grow our audience on our @tededanimation account by posting regularly, engaging with and sharing the posts of animators we work with, and liking and commenting on relevant accounts. 
  • Assist with the creation of IG Story templates and design assets for campaigns.
