This is a paid summer position at a full-schedule, residential arts program!
We enthusiastically invite people from historically marginalized communities, such as BIPOC, LGBTQ folx, and people with disabilities, to apply for all positions at every level of staff experience in the summer.
Buck’s Rock Camp, a 501(c)(3) public charity, is hiring a wide variety of Camp Counselors for its upcoming season in 2022. Camp Counselors arrive in late June and reside on-site for two months through August while working with kids and teens ages 10-17. Exact job responsibilities depend on specific placements but are limited within a range to accommodate precise roles.
Specifically, Buck’s Rock is hiring Metals Counselors. Metals counselors work closely with fellow staff and campers as dedicated art instructors. Throughout the two months, their responsibilities and daily routines include…
- Teaching kids and teens (ages 10-17) how to work with a variety of hand tools, surfaces, torches, and materials (semiprecious stones and metals)
- Working with fellow metalsmithing artists to establish Montessori, freedom-of-choice workshops and lessons with easy points of access for teenage learners
- Enjoying artmaking in the relative outdoors of western Connecticut’s Housatonic Valley
- Collaborating with dozens of other qualified staff working in a variety of disciplines, both creative/visual and performing arts
- Living and working in a summer camp-arts residency hybrid for two months
- Engaging in inspiring cultural exchanging with dozens of international staff that join to work with us for the summer
- Inspiring feelings of joy and purpose in young artistic minds!
Ideally, qualified applicants…
- Observe a personal or professional studio art practice at home or at school
- Are in a dedicated and relevant concentration of study
- Have at least six (6) credits (or equivalent) worth of experience in dedicated and relevant electives in an academic environment
- Have meaningful experience teaching their art or craft to teenage learners – or are hoping for more experience in that regard
- Can work well in a thriving staff ecosystem comprised of artists, technicians, counselors, and support staff
- Can encourage an environment of access and belonging
- Have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
