Park Place Outreach Youth Emergency Shelter, located in Savannah, Georgia, is a 12-bed temporary residential home for runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth ages 11-17. We also operate a Street Outreach Program and Drop-In Center for homeless or nearly homeless youth. While open to all, free of charge, nearly all our teens come from high poverty families in a state of crisis. In addition to safe and secure shelter, we provide counseling, tutoring, mentoring, workforce and life skills, and enrichment opportunities. Through these efforts, we aim to redirect and equip teens towards a path of educational and workplace achievement, safe and stable housing, positive and pro-social personal relationships, and overall wellbeing. The ideal candidate should be creative and the ability to adapt. This has come to play when planning events and fundraisers, just being able to cater to the different possible situations is important. Additional skills include effective communication skills, both written and in-person. Understand the role that various stakeholders play in a successful nonprofit organization. Being able to develop a relationship with staff, board members, the residents, donors, etc. can lead to an ongoing mutual benefit between the parties. Also, a level of skill in graphic design or willingness to learn is key to the day-to-day duties of the vista, marketing Park Place Outreach through social media and publicity to build and maintain the brand that it represents.
Member Duties: Park Place seeks an AmeriCorps VISTA to assist staff in volunteer and donor recruitment and development; social media management and outreach; marketing and public relations; creating flyers and online campaigns; data collection and analysis of Park Place residents and alumni; board development and committee structure; and grant applications.
