We’re hiring a Literacy Coach to provide literacy instruction and intervention to students in grades 6-12 at James Baldwin Academy. As a Literacy Coach, you’ll help your students succeed and build confidence in their reading, writing, and speaking abilities. You’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate with teachers, clinicians, and counselors to create an educational, enriching, and therapeutic classroom where students’ strengths are celebrated and their needs addressed.

Responsibilities
- Select, fine-tune, and lead the implementation of ELA curriculum materials
- Teach ELA remediation groups and conduct targete literacy interventions
- Develop school wide practices to connect with caregivers and provide education about promoting literacy in all aspects of students’ lives
- Collaborate with James Baldwin Academy’s directors in planning professional development around literacy; mentor other teachers and staff in best literacy practices
Qualifications
- Current California Mild or Moderate Specialist Credential, OR currently enrolled in a credential program
- Master’s degree in Literacy or a related field (a bachelor’s degree and related experience may suffice)
- Classroom-facing experience and demonstrated success in Special Education a plus!
- Clearance of TB test, fingerprints and any other state or federal requirements
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster
Schedule
- Full-time
- School-based schedule, including the extended school year
Benefits
- Starting at $76,000-90,000 per year, with actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role
- Up to an additional $6000 per year upon passing a bilingual language proficiency exam
