Petite Designers, a Sewing & Fashion Design Program for kids, is actively seeking for Sewing Instructors. The Sewing Instructor will be responsible for working with groups of students between the ages of 7-15. This person will be teaching kids how to sew, draw sketches, create portfolios, cut, and assemble cloth and accessories among other responsibilities.
The Sewing Instructor will facilitate the course competencies in the curriculum and proactively support all facets of the learning environment. The right candidate will encourage a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning and ethics as well as personal and professional development.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify the educational needs of student
- Facilitate sewing projects and/or classes
- Teach/instruct kids ages between 7 and 15 years old on the basic fashion design practices
- Give exact instructions on how the projects should be assembled
- Maintain the studio clean and in good condition all the time
SKILLS
- Sewing Experience is a MUST (we also train)
- Previous experience in teaching kids (ages 7 to 15) a plus
- Technical skills in pattern making, cutting, grading and garment construction a plus
- Enjoy teaching kids
- Strong organizational skills and creative thinking
- Ability to solve problems with garment assembly
- Patience and good attitude to deal with kids and ability to maintain discipline during class
- Ability to drape and work with mannequin
- Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills
- Be able to draw, either by hand or digitally a plus
- Good communication skills to explain ideas clearly and persuasively
- Ability to develop a professional rapport with parents and guardians
- Ability to develop and complete projects/classes without continued direct supervision
- Ability to learn from students’ participation, demonstrate fair and consistent behavior in all matters, and show compassion without being ineffectual
