Director of Advancement & Communications

Reports to: Head of School

Contract Status: Full-time, Salary, 12 months

Start Date: 2022-2023 School Year 

 

St. Philip’s will consider candidates with experience in one or both areas and is open to candidates looking for a part-time position.

 

St. Philip’s seeks a Director of Advancement and Communications to support fundraising and stewardship objectives, internal and external communications, and associated outreach/events aimed at donors, alumni, alumni parents, and current and prospective families. A qualified candidate will help articulate and communicate the school’s mission to key constituents, enhancing the messaging within the St. Philip’s community. The Director of Advancement and Communications is detail-oriented and able to work enthusiastically with all internal and external constituencies. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Advancement:

• Coordinate strategic events and special projects, acknowledgment, and stewardship of donors and volunteers, regular reconciliation of accounts with the Business Office, and other administrative duties. 

• Create an annual Advancement calendar that includes fundraising events, mailings, etc

• Liaise with Alumni & Alumni parents, and grandparents

• Provide support to the Head of School in matters related to the Parents’ Association, the Annual Fund, and Capital Campaign.

• Process all donations (gifts, pledges, payments, matching gifts) to the School in Senior Systems and generate and distribute receipts, acknowledgment letters/cards, and pledge reminders; update and maintain the donor database

• Produce monthly giving reports and reconcile Advancement records with the Business Office’s general ledger 

• Assist with the coordination of all campaigns (annual, capital, endowment) involving prospect screening, research, preparation of printed materials, and tracking results of campaigns for analysis 

• Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

 

Communications:

• Support the production of online and print materials, including organizing, scheduling, writing, copy editing, and design updates as needed

• Compose and send electronic communications using St. Philip’s style guidelines and messaging objectives. This includes but is not limited to producing a weekly electronic newsletter.

• Create and execute social media strategy in collaboration with the Head of School

• Manage annual yearbook project

• Maintain up-to-date documents such as Family Directory, and Student and Employee Handbooks  

• Responsible for all print and online collateral, including social media and newsletter content

• Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

 

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree

• Ability to write smart, concisely, and effectively communicate information to a wide range of audiences in various formats (print, Web, social, etc.)

• Excellent computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Comfortable with Adobe Creative Suite a plus. Knowledge of Senior Systems preferred

• Willingness to collaborate and work as a team player with a range of faculty and staff throughout the school

• Digital photography and video production experience preferred

• Fluency in Spanish is a plus

• Professional experience in education or non-profit fundraising preferred 

• Well organized with the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks with keen attention to

   detail

• Maintain a flexible attitude to rapidly changing needs and requests 

• Ability to set priorities and meet multiple deadlines with minimal supervision 

• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills 

• High enthusiasm, creativity, and sociability

• Proficiency and comfort in working with numbers/fund accounting 

• Positive attitude and willingness to provide assistance to colleagues when required to

  meet critical deadlines

  

Physical Requirements and Work Environment 

• Able to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. 

• Regularly use close and distance vision 

• Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time 

• Work in a traditional climate-controlled office environment
