COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA SUMMER STUDY ABROAD STUDENTS HELP LAUNCH FLOATING MUSEUM IN SPAIN  Students in FIU’s Communication and Media in Spain study abroad program spent their past summer on an adventure that included doing media work to help launch a one-of-a-kind floating museum in Spain. The students gained professional media experience with the international emergency rescue non-profit Proemaid, which is based in Seville and consists of volunteer firefighters. The students in the Communication and Media in Spain summer study abroad program helped establish global partnerships with museum curators and other entities, while simultaneously exploring Spanish culture and communication systems. Take the CARTA survey here. <!– –> STUDENT SPOTLIGHT SOFIE GUERRA’S  INTERNSHIP WITH ARTIST AND HONORS COLLEGE PROFESSOR JOHN BAILLY What did you do there? I curated a collection of more than 1,200 works on paper by Bailly to showcase his artistic process and emphasize the culmination of the three large paintings in the show. In between, I helped Bailly do field research for his paintings throughout the Deering Estate. Florida International University has a great music business program. The professors care about the students’ education and are well-practiced mentors. FIU has helped me get to where I am today because of the endless on campus involvement opportunities. Without the experience I acquired in organizations like Homecoming Council, Student Government Association, and my Greek organization, Delta Phi Epsilon, I wouldn’t have the experience I needed to further my career. I also worked as a student assistant in the Office of the Provost where I was able to network and learn many skills that help me in my role today. FIU ARCHITECTURE ALUM TO EXHIBIT AT SUCCULENT: RECIPES FOR ARCHITECTURAL CONSUMPTION DURING MIAMI ART WEEK This project is an exploration of the process through which we digest the built environment. Contemporary architecture is experiencing a pedagogical shift not limited to representation, speculation, and professionalism. The means through which we consume this information continues to change, presenting itself as a malleable organism to be observed. For the last 22 years, Marianna has served as the department’s Office Coordinator, running a busy office and helping faculty, students, and guests with a smile on her face and a calming presence that would rival any Buddhist monk. Today is her final day before she begins the next exciting stage of her life – retirement. It’s a bittersweet day for us at FIU Theatre as we send her off with hearts full of love and gratitude.
