FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY
COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION, ARCHITECTURE + THE ARTS

Dear CARTA Family,

As we approach the beginning of the Fall semester, I want to thank our entire CARTA community for your hard work and commitment to our students’ success.

Recent CARTA graduates, I know the coronavirus pandemic has brought about uncertainty for many of you breaking into the current job market. We remain committed to helping you succeed. As such, I want to share with you an exciting opportunity to participate in a free, fully online, one-credit professional development course that will help you prepare for a successful career. The first Fall session will be taking place from Sept. 7 – Oct. 11 and the second session will take place from Oct. 19 – Nov. 22. Recent graduates interested in participating, please click here to preregister.

As part of the Panthers Protecting Panthers Plan for Fall 2020, the university has implemented new policies, procedures, and guidelines to mitigate the risks of spreading the virus. These plans require all of our cooperation. Therefore, I ask that you review the Student Campus Repopulation Guide prior to the start of the semester and to complete the mandatory Panthers Protecting Panthers COVID-19 training course prior to classes resuming on August 24.

Everyone who comes on campus must observe all safety requirements, including social distancing and wearing a facial covering at all times. If we are coming to campus, we are also required to complete the questionnaire on the Panthers Protecting Panthers (FIU P3) application each time prior to coming to campus. The P3 app is available for download on iOSAndroid, and is also available on the web.

In preparation for August 24, the first day of the Fall semester, I ask that all CARTA faculty and staff join me, along with President Mark B. Rosenberg and Provost Kenneth G. Furton, on Friday, Aug. 21st at 4:30 p.m. for a CARTA Faculty and Staff Town Hall. The President and the Provost will be discussing the Fall semester and answering our questions. Please send any questions you may have in advance, if possible, to Lissette Garcia by Wednesday, Aug. 19th.

In closing, I hope you enjoy this week’s CARTA Dean’s Newsletter and learning about our college’s many points of pride. Students in need of financial assistance should visit the CARTA Cares website for a list of all available resources, and please continue to check the FIU COVID-19 FAQ page, the CARTA Cares Coronavirus updates page, and our social media accounts regularly for the latest information regarding Fall 2020.

In the Spirit of the Blue + Gold,

Brian Schriner
Dean
