Kopenhaver Center hosts “The Power of Women: A Force for Change” to help women recognize their power

The Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication (Kopenhaver Center) is celebrating Women’s History Month with its latest virtual workshop, “The Power of Women: A Force for Change.”

Through this workshop, FIU’s Kopenhaver Center and its two affiliate centers at Stephens College and Rowan University are teaming up to discuss why women must recognize their power and move forward.

And the guest list is not one to miss.

Dianne Lynch, president of Stephens College, will be hosting the workshop and she will be joined by two guest speakers, Melissa Medina, president of eMerge Americas, and Judy Taylor, senior vice president of casting and talent relations for Disney Channel.

“Having worked in Film/Television Casting for 48 years, I have witnessed firsthand the journey of women in the entertainment industry and their quest to advance in leadership roles,” Taylor says. “While there has been meaningful progress, there’s much more to be done and it is up to all of us, through our words, actions and by example to empower young girls and women to realize their full potential in whatever path they choose.  In that spirit, I look forward to sharing in this important discussion with you all as we celebrate Women’s History Month at The Kopenhaver Center at Stephen’s College.”

The workshop will address the role of women, their power, what is needed to bring about change at every level and how their voices can empower other women as well.

“An integral part of my professional journey has been surrounding myself with a network of supportive women and mentors,” Medina says. “I believe in the power of creating spaces for women to share the tapestry of our experiences, our sobering lessons and greatest achievements. I look forward to celebrating our experiences during this virtual event so that, together, we may inspire new opportunities for young women.”

The LLK Center is a long-standing advocate for women, especially those in communication. This latest workshop is just one of a series of virtual workshops the Kopenhaver Center and its affiliates host to lead the way for future generations of communicators, professionals and scholars.

“Women are more than half the population of the United States, yet that reality has not been reflected in leadership roles in our society,” says Dr. Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver founder of the Kopenhaver Center. “Women’s History Month gives us the opportunity to showcase how women are change agents and deserve a seat at the table where decisions are made. Our speakers in this workshop are perfect role models of the power of women and how their leadership has made a difference.

“The Power of Women: A Force for Change” is taking place on March 16 at 2 p.m. via Zoom and is free and open to the public.
