Landscape Architecture alumnus Dominic Mack, MLA ‘18 was elected Section Chair for the American Society of Landscape Architects (FL ASLA) Florida’s Broward County chapter. The Broward Section Chair position is considered an Executive Committee (ExCom) position on the American Society of Landscape Architects, Florida Chapter board.
Dominic graduated last spring semester from Florida International University and was considered a stand-out individual in academic and extracurricular roles. He currently works for Calvin, Giordano & Associates, Inc. as a landscape designer for the Broward County branch.
After serving as President of FIU’s ASLA student chapter, he became greatly influenced by the organization’s goal to strive for advocacy and education specifically, and took initiative to not only advocate through ASLA by attending social venues, networking opportunities and conferences (both State and National), but he also started a partnership with Nicole Plunkett through Future Landscape Architects of America (FLAA) to help create guidelines as a University Representative to teach children (K-12) about this inherent potential of Landscape Architecture.
Overall, the Chair’s goal is to continue to promote ASLA members and the role of landscape architects in the development process and built environment. Also to promote member benefits and the opportunities for professional growth and fun in both a personal and professional manner at ASLA events. A few of Dominic’s goals as the Broward Section chair are to augment resources, create advocacy to increase awareness of the untapped potential of our profession, and to explore outreach opportunities with neighboring educational institutions to familiarize others with the profession and increase awareness.
He strives to keep his connection to ASLA, as well as the student chapter at FIU by potentially establishing the framework needed for an alumni association, in order to grow exponentially through its resources and take the responsibility of advocating for the potential it can contribute to dealing with our local issues and general quality-of-life issues.
