The Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) held its annual conference last week on March 6th through March 9th in Sacramento, California. Professor Ebru Özer from the Department of Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design (LAEUD) was invited to present her research on climate resiliency and infrastructure solutions during the conference.
Professor Özer’s presentation was entitled “Climate considerations for design, implementation, and maintenance of green storm-water infrastructure in urban areas”. It highlighted design challenges, implementation impediments, and divergent maintenance needs of green infrastructure practices utilized in urban areas in different climatic zones. It seeks to identify methods to improve climate resiliency of green infrastructure systems and looks at methods to address climate flexibility for their effective functioning. The research is part of Professor Özer’s Ph.D. studies working with her major professor Dr. Berrin Tansel from FIU’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Earlier this year, Professor Ebru Özer was appointed treasurer of the CELA Board of Directors for a two-year term.
The CELA is an international organization comprised of institutions and individuals that meet annually to disseminate the latest thinking and findings through refereed presentations and papers. It can trace its beginnings to 1920, and for more than ninety years it has been concerned with the content and quality of professional education in landscape architecture. The CELA is composed of virtually all the programs of higher learning in landscape architecture in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. CELA’s annual conferences focus on recent research and scholarship in all aspects of landscape architecture. Members of the academic community, as well as others, submit abstracts for peer review which, when accepted, are presented at the annual conferences.
