Exam Dates and Times

The Spring 2017 test dates are: April 28, May 1, 2, 3 & 4. Each date offers two test times: 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. For a complete list of exam dates and times, please refer to this page. Make sure to select the appropriate date and time that is most convenient for you. Remember that exams can take as long as two hours, so plan accordingly and arrive on time.

Entrance Exam Policies and Procedures

In order to take MMC 3104C (Writing Strategies), you must pass the MMC 3104C Language Skills Test.

You must read and agree to the following policies and procedures in order to sign up for this exam:

TAKING AND PASSING THE EXAM

  • The entrance exam has two portions: multiple-choice language skills test and a writing sample.
  • If you plan on taking MMC 3104C – Writing Strategies, you must pass the Language Skills Test.
  • The minimum passing score required on the entrance test portion is 70.
  • If you pass the multiple-choice portion, then you must stay and submit a writing sample. The writing sample will be graded as pass/fail and will cover spelling, syntax, punctuation and interest in the subject.
  • If you pass the test but do not stay to take the writing sample, or otherwise do not pass the writing sample, you will not be allowed to register for MMC 3104C.

STUDY MATERIALS AND INFORMATION

LANGUAGE SKILLS TEST REGISTRATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • The cost for the exam is a $75.00 fee, and it allows you one attempt to pass the exam. First you register and then you pay.
  • Each examination date has a specified sign-up period. Once that period is over, or the exam slots for that day are filled, registration will close. To view a full list of exam dates and registration periods, please navigate to this page.
  • In order to sign-up, students must have the following information:
    • A valid Panthersoft ID
    • A valid Moodle account
    • If you are unable to provide one or more of the required items, you should call or come in to the SCJ Office of Student Services. You can reach them at (305) 919-5625.
    • There are a maximum of 20 spaces available for each exam time. Sign up early, so you won’t lose your chance.

ATTENTION: If you do not show up for an exam for which you have registered, you will be charged a $75 fee AGAIN the next time you register.

PAYMENT

  • Print the payment form and make your $75 payment at the Cashier’s Office (ACI-140 or PC-120). Payment forms are available online and in the Student Services Office (ACII-230). Click here to download the Payment Form>>
  • The Cashier’s Office will ONLY accept CASH for this payment. Keep the original receipt given to you by the Cashier’s Office upon payment and BRING IT WITH YOU ON THE EXAM DAY. Copies or duplicates will not be accepted. We recommend that you pay the fee in advance and not on the day of the test.

SCHEDULE AND LOCATION

  • All exams will be held in ACII-301 on the Biscayne Bay Campus. Take your original $75 payment receipt and a picture ID (driver’s license or Panther ID card) to AC II 301.
  • Once the exam starts, no latecomers will be permitted entry. Testing sessions will not be interrupted to accommodate latecomers.

OPTION FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT PASS THE LANGUAGE SKILLS TEST

  • If students do not demonstrate the requisite proficiency of grammar on the exam, they can enroll in MMC 3021 Grammar Workshop. Once students successfully complete MMC 3021, which includes passing the Language Skills Test with a minimum of 70 and passing the writing sample, they can proceed to MMC 3104C.
