There are scholarships available for undergraduate and graduate students. Details on submitting applications are below. Please note application deadline and plan accordingly.

Dr. David A. Kopenhaver Scholarship
This endowment scholarship fund was established in 2009 by Dr. Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver, Professor and Dean Emeritus, as a memorial to her husband, Dr. David A. Kopenhaver, an accomplished university professor, psychologist, television host, producer and author.
Undergraduate and Graduate
Janet Chusmir Memorial Scholarship
An endowment scholarship fund was established in 1991 in memory of Janet Chusmir, who was a former executive editor of the Miami Herald. She was the paper’s first female editor and guided the newspaper to two Pulitzer Prizes.
Undergraduate and Graduate CARTA Scholarships
Siggi B. Wilzig Scholarship
The Siggi B. Wilzig Scholarship was established by donor Ivan Wilzig to support students within the College of Communication, Architecture and the Arts (CARTA).
Panorama Travel Scholarship
The Panorama Travel Scholarship Endowment was established in 2016 by Panorama Travel in support of study abroad programs in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts. Students from the Department of Communication, Lee Caplin School of Journalism + Media, School of Architecture, Department of Art + Art History, The Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts, and the Department of Theatre are eligible for this scholarship.
Public Relations Majors
Undergraduate
William C. Adams Memorial Scholarship
William C. Adams was one of the SCJ’s best-loved and well-respected public relations professors. After a lengthy career in public relations and in education, he passed away in 2003. This scholarship was established in his memory.
Communication Arts and Public Relations and Advertising Majors
Communication Arts Scholarship
The Communication Arts Scholarship is for students that completed their freshmen year and will be returning for their second year. To be eligible, students must be in the Communication Arts Major, have completed at least 30 credits (be a sophomore), and have a 3.0 GPA.
Criteria: Need-based, with consideration for students’ accomplishments and characteristics.
To be eligible:
- The scholarship applicant must be enrolled in 12 credits the Fall and spring of their sophomore year
- Have a 3.0 GPA or above
- All applicants must have a current FAFSA on file

The Student Ed Access Scholarship
The Student Ed Access scholarship is for currently enrolled Communication students at FIU who will be enrolled as part-time students (6 credits a semester) for the academic year. To be eligible, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above. Additionally, applicants must have a current FAFSA on file in FIU’s financial aid office. One student will be awarded per semester
To be eligible:
- The scholarship applicant must be enrolled in 6 credits per term
- At least 12 credits in communication

Communication Arts Majors
Kathleen Watson Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship honors the late Kathleen Watson, a long-time and much-loved Communication Arts professor at FIU.
The scholarship is open to Majors in the Department of Communication (Communication Arts, Public Relations, Advertising, Applied Communications) who have received a grade of at least a B in COM 3110, hold at least a 3.0 overall GPA, and who demonstrate community involvement.
Gus Amaya Memorial Scholarship
One $500 scholarship will be awarded fall and spring semesters. The individual will be selected by the faculty advisor for the Honors Society and the Chair of Communication Arts.
Gus Amaya was a long-time adjunct faculty member in the department. For more than 20 years, he taught communication skills. His background was in business and technical writing, creative writing, presentation skills, and film studies. The scholarship is awarded to deserving Communication Arts majors each semester who have at least a 3.0 overall GPA, and are members of the department’s Honor Society.

- Go to https://fiu.academicworks.com/ .
- Sign in with your MyAccounts username and password.
- Complete the general application.
- Select the Opportunities tab. Apply to all appropriate opportunities.
- In addition, AcademicWorks will search our database of awards and recommend scholarships in which the students may be eligible. Some students will be automatically entered into the applicant pool; others may need to answer additional questions first.
Location-Based Entertainment Communications Micro-Credential Scholarship Opportunities
Limited scholarship funding may be available for eligible participants enrolled in the Location-Based Entertainment Communications Micro-Credential. Scholarships are intended to reduce financial barriers and expand access to professional development opportunities in the rapidly growing location-based entertainment (LBE) industry. Award decisions are based on available funding and eligibility requirements. Submission of a scholarship request does not guarantee an award.
