CARTA in DC Internship Program
The College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) in DC is currently looking for qualified SCJ students to intern for the Summer 2019 semester in Washington D.C. and work for nationally acclaimed organizations.
The CARTA in D.C. program recruits and places students at internships for an entire semester. Students not only get to work with prestigious organizations, but there are a number of lectures scheduled with Communication professionals, fieldtrips in the city, and workshops.We are currently looking for Summer interns. We’re looking for students interested in being placed in the communications offices of leading D.C. institutions–students with excellent work ethic, professional skills, and motivation. You just need good skills in social media and in all forms of written and oral communication–put your coursework to work for you!
In Design skills are a plus, but not required. You’ll be eligible for a $3,500 scholarship to cover housing costs, and you’ll take a few online courses as well. You can pay for your semester in D.C. however you normally do–scholarship, financial aid, etc.
We’ll be placing students at these locations and possibly others:
- The Woodrow Wilson International Institute for Scholars
- Young People For
- FIU in DC
- Young Professionals in Foreign Policy
Requirements:
- Be a junior or senior Communication or Journalism + Media undergraduate student or a GSC graduate student (recent alums can apply as well)
- Have a 3.0 minimum GPA
- Be in good standing (academic, personal, and financial)
We are looking for students with any of the following skills:
- InDesign
- Good written and oral communication
- Video Editing
- Web design
- Photography/Videography
- Independent work ethic
There are three easy steps to apply:
- Meet with your academic advisor to ensure that this program will work with your academic progress/plan (does not apply to alumni applicants)
- Complete the online CARTA in DC APPLICATION
- Complete an in-person interview
Once the application has been reviewed and the interview conducted, you will be notified of your acceptance via email with the permission number to register for the associated course.
In an effort to best accommodate the needs of our students and offer the most cost-effective option we can, this program will not offer predetermined housing plans. Instead, students will have the opportunity to make their own housing arrangements in a manner that best suits their budget – be that staying with family, friends, or with a third-party housing provider. district of Washington, D.C., WISH Woodley Park center offers fully furnished housing
just blocks from the Metro, in a neighborhood with restaurants, cafes and drugstores.
Offers access to events, seminars, and career development workshops - Washington Intern Student Housing’s (WISH) Campus Hill – Every WISH Row House
property is located in the Historic District on Capitol Hill, within a few minutes’ walk
from the Capitol Building - The Washing Intern Housing Network – Fully furnished student residences near Capitol
Hill - Cities Housing Solutions – Fully furnished student housing gin the D.C. metro area.
Students can rent an entire apartment, single room, or shared bedroom. Program will
assist students with finding a roommate, and offers options to rent as a group
Eligible students may qualify for a scholarship to offset the cost of housing on a funds available basis.
