Dean’s Special Message

Dear CARTA Students,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Fall 2021 Semester and the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA)!

As you begin the semester, please take a moment to review the College’s homepage at Here you will find more information about our nationally ranked academic programs and our college-wide commitment to immersive learning. In CARTA, you will pursue your degree and develop your skills by working with our accomplished faculty and professional staff — “learning by doing” in our studios, stages, labs, newsrooms, and collaboration hubs.

I encourage you to take a moment to review you and the CARTA Resource Guide. Here you will find a wealth of information to assist you, including your assigned academic advisor, registration, course schedule, as well as scholarship, internship, and employment opportunities.

Our campuses and collaboration hubs in Miami Beach and Wynwood are open and fully operational. I know that you, like everyone at FIU, takes the COVID-19 Delta variant seriously. We must all work together to keep each other safe. Therefore, each time you come to campus, please complete the questionnaire on the Panthers Protecting Panthers (FIU P3) application. The FIU P3 app is available for download on iOSAndroid and is also available on the web.  And in accordance with the guidelines of the US Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), I strongly encourage you to protect yourself and others by wearing a face covering while indoors and getting a COVID-19 vaccination. COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective, and for your convenience, there are several vaccination sites located on campus. For additional information, including answers to students’ frequently asked questions (FAQs), please visit Panthers Protecting Panthers.

I, along with all my colleagues, thank you for your confidence in CARTA. We have no doubt you have made the right choice and that this is going to be an enjoyable and productive semester. We are all looking forward to working with you!

In the Spirit of the Blue + Gold,

Brian Schriner
