Sea Level Solutions Days

Since 2015, Eyes on the Rise has co-sponsored Sea Level Solutions Days with FIU’s Sea Level Solutions Center. During this event, citizens from around Miami-Dade County measure and document sunny-day flooding during the King Tides, or the highest high tides of the season, which usually occur during the fall. Citizens take photos of flooded areas, measure the depth of flooded areas and take water samples that are analyzed by scientists at FIU.

Mapping the Data

Citizen scientists use a data collection app to record the depth and salinity of flood water, if any. They also take photos of the site of the flooding. The data is then displayed on a map, like this one from September 2019.
