Mobile Virtual Reality Lab Spurs Innovation
Students and faculty in the Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media are leading the way in creating stories about the “unseen” of sea level rise.
VirtualEYES highlights the interdisciplinary work of students, staff, and faculty involved in projects surrounding eyesontherise.org, a community-based initiative to create science communication and journalism related to changing environments of South Florida, including sea level rise.
Work from the Mobile Virtual Reality Lab — headed by Florida International University professors Robert Gutsche, Jr. (Team Lead), Juliet Pinto, Michael Sheerin, and Elizabeth Marsh in the School of Communication and Journalism — fuels the bulk of the work presented on VirtualEYES.
The Mobile Virtual Reality Lab was funded with nearly $20,000 from the FIU School of Communication + Journalism and is supported, in part, by other funds and initiatives, including a 2016 seed grant awarded by FIU’s College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts.
