We are excited to share this opportunity for seasonal employment with The Phi Beta Kappa Society’s national office in Washington, DC. We are looking for one part-time intern to work remotely on a variety of projects.
About the Phi Beta Kappa Internship Program
An internship at the Phi Beta Kappa Society provides firsthand experience with the work of a national non-profit society and the opportunity to promote a compelling mission, both through individual projects and in collaboration with multiple departments. In addition to day-to-day assignments, the intern completes a capstone project with guidance from national office staff. The project includes a written report and presentation to senior staff and is designed to encourage critical thinking, long term strategy, best writing and presentation practices, and creativity.
There is a strong focus on professional development, including regular check ins on projects, resume and cover letter review, and a Society-wide commitment to providing an educational experience.
Event and Advocacy Intern
- Supporting virtual event planning process, which may include: assisting with logistical tasks related to the management of our scholarship program, researching potential speakers and award recipients, compiling invitation lists, and helping design promotional materials;
- Researching and compiling higher education news stories to feature in the monthly e-alerts;
- Assisting in the development of event-related communications, such as social media posts and emails to members using mass mailing software;
- Drafting general correspondence, developing copy, and proofreading documents as needed;
- Completing a capstone project, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
We are looking for a college student or recent graduate with a passion for the liberal arts and sciences and strong writing abilities. Preference will be given to Phi Beta Kappa members. The position will work remotely, and requires access to a computer, reliable internet, and a phone.
Hours and Compensation
The position will be paid a stipend of $4,000 total for 13 weeks of work. Internship hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. for a minimum of three days a week. The preferred start date is Monday, September 14, 2020.
