The Communications & Marketing Office at Colorado School of Mines supports and promotes the work of the university’s students, faculty and staff. We write, edit, design, publish and amplify print and digital content that promotes the school, its events, academic departments and programs — with the highest priority on work that furthers the goals of the Mines@150 strategic plan.
The Communications Intern will work closely with the Director of Communications and Public Information Specialist to assist in needs related to:
- Writing news stories and briefs for Mines Newsroom, Mines Magazine and other university publications
- Interviewing faculty and students for web copy, social media, newsletters and other communications and marketing materials
- Building and maintaining local, regional, national and trade media lists
This is a remote position. The selected candidate(s) will not report to the Mines campus in Golden, Colorado, but must have the ability to collaborate with colleagues via common tools including Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Pay is $12 per hour for up to 10 hours per week for up to 16 weeks, beginning Jan. 11. (Start date is flexible.)
Minimum Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree in journalism, communications or related field at a higher education institution.
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of AP style
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with copy editing and proofreading
