NPR’s Summer 2021 Internship Program will be fully remote. 

Program Duration: June 1 – August 20, 2021

NPR is a nonprofit, unlike many of our peers in the media space. As such, we rely on a diverse coalition of funders who support our mission to educate and inform. This internship will provide exposure across the Development division – research, data analysis, cultivation, events, stewardship – but will chiefly focus on work with the NPR Foundation Board of Trustees, which is comprised of many of NPR’s most loyal and generous supporters. Notably, the intern will design and lead a project related to capturing the history of the Foundation through interviews, surveys, and research.

INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designing and implementing the first stage of an effort to capture the history of the NPR Foundation through audio recordings, written word, and images;
  • Supporting the administration of NPR Foundation Committees and task forces;
  • Working with the Director, Board Relations, to plan and execute the summer Foundation Board call;
  • Learning the basics of nonprofit development, including: individual giving, institutional giving, planned giving, operations, donor communications and stewardship;
  • Developing an understanding of relationship management and storytelling for a cause;
  • Assisting with organization, maintenance and management of database records;
  • Prospect research with the goal of determining potential alignment with NPR funding priorities.

WHO CAN APPLY?

  • LOCATION: Must be planning to work from the United States and authorized to work in the United States throughout the Summer 2021 internship dates. 
  • EDUCATION: Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship. 

PREFERRED SKILLS

  •     Well-developed time and project management skills; self-starter
  •     Strong writing and communication skills; story-telling or journalism experience a plus
  •     Advanced research skills for finding, organizing and presenting information from both internal and external sources
  •     Data and database experience, including data entry and hygiene
  •     Familiarity and comfort working with Microsoft Office
  •     Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, including high-net-worth individuals
  •     Experience working in nonprofit development
  •     An interest in nonprofit management
