The Public Relations and Social Media Intern is responsible for assisting The UPS Store with managing the development and publishing of social media content at the national and local levels; engaging with our nationwide franchise network to provide timely public relations and social media support; and assisting with writing and editing external-facing content to promote brand awareness and affinity.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assists with planning, developing and publishing social media content across the franchise network on a weekly basis
- Corresponds with the franchise network on general PR and social media questions and requests
- Educates the franchise network about new and current PR support tools and content available for use on the intranet
- Assists with writing franchisee and customer stories, conducting interviews and preparing editorial content for external release
- Researches new PR tactics and competitor trends using informal and formal research techniques
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge and experience with developing a social media calendar, creating social content and working with a social posting tool to program content for distribution
- Knowledge of public relations skills to include writing press releases, responding to media queries, writing media pitches and public speaking
- Ability to balance multiple projects and expectations, while meeting all deadlines
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work as changes occur
- Ability to professionally communicate verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences (internal, external, franchisee, etc.)
- Understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn) and how they are used for business purposes
- 2 years of undergraduate education in Public Relations, Marketing Communication, Digital Engagement and/or a related area of study – Preferred
- Experience using Adobe Photoshop – Preferred
- Ability to synthesize large amounts of information, think critically, ask questions, and provide creative ideas and feedback – Preferred
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer
- Employer will not sponsor a visa for this or future positions
- Must be currently located in the same geographic location as the job or willing to relocate yourself
- Must be a rising college junior or senior, or recent graduate within the last 24 months
- Must be able to professionally communicate verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences (internal, external, franchisee, etc.)
- Must understand social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn) and how they are used for business purposes
