Full-Time Program Director Job Description
CSC is seeking a Program Director to supervise and manage its sailing programs at both Boulder and Cherry Creek Reservoirs, along with assisting event management and organizational growth in the off-season. This is a full-time year-round position that will report to the Executive Director. This person is responsible for the following:
High Season Duties (Spring – Fall)
- Overseeing sailing programs at both locations providing supervision to the different locations’ designated Shore Directors, Instructors, and volunteers.
- Providing observation and guidance to staff on camp management, including things such as risk management, equipment upkeep, creative engagement, curriculum adherence, professional parent interactions etc.
- Reviewing daily Incident Reports and Daily Debrief Reports to assess programmatic needs, equipment needs, and implementing necessary adjustments.
- When necessary, providing guidance and assistance to Shore Director with behavior management of students.
- If needed, step in as Shore Director role in the instance of Instructor absence where Shore Director takes over for Instructor.
- If necessary, assist in on-water emergency response protocol.
- Performing boat repair and maintenance duties of sailing equipment and power boats, as well as communicating any issues with the Executive Director.
- Driving a boat trailer and having ample experience pulling boats in and out at a boat ramp or with a crane is required.
- Supporting programs at both locations does involve daily onsite presence rotating between Boulder and Denver. Program Director must be equally willing to commute to both locations.
- Beyond summer camp duties, the Program Director will assist in management of concurrent summer time events (Adaptive or Community Partnership-based) that take place onsite during summer camp hours. Instructors and volunteers will be assigned to these groups and Program Director will assist in any additional needs with regard to providing a smooth and professional introduction and transition into our programs.
- With flexibility in start time/work hours (ex: starting midday) Program Director may be asked to cover/host occasional afternoon or evening Adaptive, Community Partnership or Adult group events.
- In Spring and Fall Seasons Program Director will be responsible for fleet preparation and winterization/onsite storage.
- In Spring and Fall Seasons Program Director may also be assigned (if skillset and interest align) as Race Team Coach providing once weekly afternoon practices at each location.
- Assisting with marketing tasks by way of regular social media posts and mobile marketing strategies.
- Additional assignments as needed could include but are not limited to: assisting with regatta management, fundraising events, adjusting staff training protocol, updating camp curriculum, communicating with volunteers, assisting with concessionaire relations (State and City Park Rangers, Marina Managers etc), pairing down/assisting in the sale of aging boats no longer needed in our programs, general fleet documentation maintenance, onsite area maintenance etc.
Off-Season Duties (Winter)
- Actively building relationships with surrounding schools and youth-serving organizations to increase reach in our community by offering scholarships, sailing-related STEM opportunities, and potential shoulder season field trips. Assist in the administrative duties related to these tasks and execution of these events.
- Actively building relationships with organizations who may be interested in our Adaptive Sailing Program. Assist in the administrative duties related to these tasks and execution of these events.
- Assist with events and fundraising campaigns (Giving Tuesday, Colorado Gives Day, Denver Boat Show, Annual Gala etc.)
- Assisting in the organization and preparation of registration for summer camps
- Assisting in implementing marketing strategies, collecting and producing marketing materials, social media posts, doing basic website maintenance, etc.
- Assisting in the process of vetting, hiring and training summer staff and volunteers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The candidate should be self-motivated and enjoy working in a leadership role within the sport of sailing as well as promote a team environment that inspires staff and students. The candidate must also have a strong, independent work ethic where initiative and innovation are central values. Other qualifications must include:
- Experience organizing, managing and coordinating the daily activities of a Sailing Program.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and the utmost safety protocol.
- Previous instructing and coaching experience.
- Previous directing or program management experience.
- Experience managing a staff ranging in age from 14 years old and up (predominantly high school and college-aged)
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, be organized, and take initiative.
- Be comfortable working under pressure, exercising strong problem-solving skills, and willing to adapt to changing program needs.
- Confidence and competence in daily weather safety mitigation (Colorado summer weather can be very unpredictable).
- Familiarity with social media and online marketing
- Ability to create and implement policies and procedures as they relate to increasing safety within our programs
- Have a college education at an Associate level or higher (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
- Current US Sailing Small Boat Instructor Level 1 required (Level 2 and 3 is a plus)
- Able to pass necessary background checks in addition to having a safe driving record and be trusted driving/caring for the organization’s vehicle.
- Either has previous experience with or be willing to learn fundraising and financial developmental strategies
- Either has previous experience with or be willing to learn marketing strategies, create basic marketing material, as well as perform basic social media and website maintenance
- Have a strong skillset in written and verbal communication that portrays professionalism and reflects the competence and respectability of our organization.
Pay: Commensurate with experience
