Do you love sports and entertainment?
Maybe you hang out where they intersect.
You know all about star athletes, but you also follow them on Instagram and TikTok. You know college football star Kenny Pickett is from N.J. and will be a top pick in the NFL Draft, but you also know he recently got engaged. When there’s a social media beef in the sports world, you’re one of the first to know.
NJ Advance Media is looking to expand our coverage of the fast-growing intertwining of sports, entertainment, and social media — because that’s how athletes make (and even break) news these days. If you’re also detail-oriented with a sharp eye for identifying enticing topics and developing engaging content, we’re looking for you.
We’re searching for a versatile, curious, ambitious, digitally minded reporter to cover trending topics in sports and help us grow our audience. We want a savvy reporter who can write fast while aggregating and mining social media, podcasts and interviews for news-breaking nuggets while producing multiple stories a day.
Our ideal candidate will have a passion for sports and entertainment — and, of course, pop culture. Hey, you’re a sports fan, so you know what they’re looking for online and you can write a savvy post with a luring headline to draw in readers.
You have a proven track record and you’re an SEO pro. You’ll be able to track key metrics to know what’s working and react accordingly.
Sports aren’t a 9-to-5 world, so we’ll need you to be flexible on scheduling. In turn, we can be flexible on location.
You should apply if you have:
- A degree in journalism, English or communications, or a related field;
- Minimum 2 years of journalism experience with a proven ability in reporting and writing;
- A fluency in SEO, Google Trends and keywords;
- An absolute passion for informing readers with an ability to expand the reach of stories and grow online audience;
- The ability to work independently under deadline pressure and prioritize appropriately;
- A solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure;
- The poise and organization to handle multiple tasks at once at a fast-moving pace;
- A competitive nature and mindset
To be considered for the position, please submit a resume, cover letter and links to five relevant clips.
