THE DEPARTMENT OF JOURNALISM + MEDIA UPDATES ITS DIGITAL + INTERACTIVE MEDIA MAJOR

The Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media will be renaming its Digital + Interactive Media major to Interactive + Immersive Media and update its curriculum to include courses in 3D animation and game design.

Slated to take effect in fall 2023, the Department is creating three tracks within the newly updated Interactive + Immersive Media major under the Bachelor of Science in Digital Communication + Media: Producing Immersive Media, Immersive Storytelling, and Game + Interactive Media. The sixty-credit tracks will also be open to any current and future Journalism + Media student with an interest in game design and animation.

“Immersive Media is a new field with many opportunities for our students,” Dr. Susan Jacobson, Interim Chair of the Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media, said. “We want to prepare our students to be able to work with emerging media forms like augmented and virtual reality, game and interactive media production. Our vision is to prepare students for Twenty-first Century media professions.”

Students can expect to find the new track offerings as early as the Fall 2023 semester. The department is planning to develop a Master’s Degree in Interactive + Immersive Media to be launched Fall 2024.
