Oxy’s Summer Intern Program runs from May to August for 12 weeks. As an Oxy intern, you will have the opportunity to experience real-life projects with hands-on participation in Oxy’s core businesses. Your summer project will be designed to add value to our operations while providing an opportunity to observe your skills and competencies in action. Oxy interns are paired with a manager and mentor to provide technical guidance throughout the project timeline. Description

The Corporate Affairs department protects and enhances the company’s reputation in support of its business objectives. The department leads the company’s external communications, including media relations, executive speaking engagements, public affairs initiatives, issues management, news monitoring, and other relevant reputation-enhancing strategies. The summer intern will have the opportunity to:

  • Support the department’s implementation of communication programs at the corporate-level and for the company’s global business units
  • Assist in drafting background documents, press releases, Q&A documents and materials for external use
  • Identify and develop opportunities for amplifying stories on social media
  • Provide recommendations on media inquiries based on research and understanding of Occidental’s business
  • Assist with media monitoring

Qualifications

  • Candidate must be a creative thinker, and team player with excellent writing, interpersonal, organizational and planning skills

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in public relations, communications or relevant program or a similar area of study.
  • Must have a graduation date of December 2023 – May 2025
  • Must maintain minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Outlook and Teams; or training will be provided
