About the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts 

In accordance with Andy Warhol’s will, the mission of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts is the advancement of the visual arts. The foundation manages an innovative and flexible grants program while also preserving Warhol’s legacy through creative and responsible licensing policies and extensive scholarly research for ongoing catalogue raisonné projects. To date, the foundation has given over $260 million in cash grants to over 1,000 arts organizations in 49 states and abroad and has donated 52,786 works of art to 322 institutions worldwide. Description: 

The Communications Intern will work closely with the Foundation’s Communications Manager to take part in various projects to help share the foundation’s work, the work of the foundation’s grantees, promote its core values, and to grow the foundation’s audience. This internship intends to provide a hands-on experience of the inner workings of the Foundation’s external communications that amplify the work of the foundation’s grantees, its philanthropic endeavors, innovative licensing collaborations, and the scholarly research of the catalogues raisonnés. 

Intern Responsibilities:

Special Projects: 

  • Assist in the creation of the foundation’s periodic newsletter; the newsletter highlights all aspects of the Foundation’s work which include notable reviews of foundation funded exhibitions, news and achievements of current grantees, recent licensing projects, and developments in the catalogues raisonnés. 
  • Conceive and organize a social media campaign for the foundation’s social media channels; this can be a series of grantee related posts, #philosophyfriday posts, or a campaign centered around one of the foundation’s philanthropic contributions such as the Photographic Legacy Project or the Stanford Photo Archive  

General: 

  • Communicate with Foundation grantees to request visual materials for the Foundation’s social media platforms 
  • Research and identify appropriate media contacts from relevant outlets to add to the foundation’s press list 
  • Identify and update contacts from relevant arts and cultural institutions, and philanthropic organizations to add to the foundation’s mailing list 
  • Assist with tracking and organizing media coverage related to the Foundation and its grantees 

 

Skills and qualifications include: 

  • Current undergraduate (junior or senior preferred), recent graduate or graduate student, and/or experience equivalent 
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written 
  • Knowledge of social media platforms; Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and related social media management tools such as Later or Hootsuite 
  • Excellent research skills 
  • Knowledge of e-marketing platforms such as Mail Chimp 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Attention to detail 
  • Interest in the visual arts, arts administration, and/or philanthropy 
  • Ability to work independently
