FHI 360 has an exciting internship opportunity for a student interested in growing their skills within the international development sector. Under close supervision, an Intern will perform entry level professional duties which will provide the opportunity for professional training in various functional areas throughout the organization. Internship assignments serve to offer practical experience and broad exposure to a global nonprofit development organization.
The Social Marketing and Communications department at FHI 360 is seeking an Intern to support various tasks related to social media for the CDC’s Let’s Stop HIV Together campaign.
This is a paid internship with a flexible schedule based on project needs.
Anticipated Duration: Fall 2023 (August/September – December 2023)
Hours: Part time, 20-30 hours per week
Pay Rate: $18.00 /hour (undergraduate) | $23-25 (masters)
Location: Preference given to the candidates located in Eastern time zone or Central time zone

Anticipated Project(s) and Assignment Details:
The intern will primarily support the Social Media Team on the HIV Communications Project in the Social Marketing Communications (SMC) Department at FHI 360. SMC implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing, public relations, communication, and training and technical assistance projects in the U.S. that are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, foundations, and private associations. The HIV Communications Project supports a national HIV consumer campaign that focuses on prevention, stigma, and testing.
FHI 360 supports this campaign by coordinating, developing, and executing various communication tasks including materials development, organic social and digital media, outreach support, and media buying. The intern may contribute to various team or project activities under the direction of their supervisor in the following ways:
- Draft social media posts for monthly social media calendar
- Schedule and post approved messages on campaign Instagram and Facebook accounts
- Draft and send bimonthly social media toolkit
- Conduct research for and contribute to internal monthly social media newsletter
- Draft and submit ad hoc posts as requested
- Assist with project-related administrative tasks, as needed, including but not limited to assisting with organizing and participating in team meetings and client calls (e.g., assisting with meeting preparation, taking meeting minutes, drafting post-meeting reports)
- Support social media team with live online events
- Conduct social media marketing research
- Assist with social media influencer campaign strategy and research
- Brainstorm and research ideas for original social media content
- Develop new strategies for increasing engagement
- Ensure brand message is consistent
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Currently pursuing a Masters or Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Social Media Marketing, Marketing, Communications, Digital Media or related field at a college or university or within one year of graduation date
- The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter equipped with strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Demonstrated interest in related subject area through studies or work experience
- Excellent research skills
- Mastery of the major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and TikTok
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required
- Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner
- Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English
Typical Physical Demands:
- Remote office environment
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift to 5 lbs.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), e-mail
