Certificate in Creative Digital Filmmaking (15 credits)
(Jointly offered by the Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media and the Department of Theatre)
The certificate in Creative Digital Filmmaking will combine courses in film appreciation, acting/directing for the screen, and digital film production and post-production to undergraduate students at FIU.
A joint venture between the Department of Theatre, and the Department of Journalism+Media, this certificate fills gaps in both departments, as students have expressed a desire to take courses in directing and acting and producing for film.
- FIL 2000 Film Appreciation – 3 credits –For the beginning student of filmmaking. Survey of the origins and development of cinematography as an art form. Presentation and technical analysis of selected films. .
- TPP 3265 Intro to Acting/Directing for TV/Film – 3 credits – An introduction to the fundamentals of acting/directing for TV/Film through practical exercise and creative assignments.
- DIG 3153 Writing for Film – 3 credits – An introductory course covering visual narrative scriptwriting for film. Students learn 3-act dramatic story structure, script elements and industry standards for developing short-form screenplays..
- DIG 4413 Digital Cinematography – 3 credits – Students will learn basic filmmaking techniques, theory, storytelling and production management. Students progress from creating storyboards to producing a short digital film.
- DIG 4287 – Sound Design for Visual Media – 3 credits – An introductory course in the concepts, applications and production techniques used in sound design and audio production for film, video and TV.
