Apply to the Graduate Program in Advanced News Producing
Application Requirements
To apply to the Graduate Program in Advanced News Producing, please set up a login account at the FIU Graduate School application portal and follow the instructions to apply for the Master of Science in Mass Communication with a major in Advanced News Producing. You will need the following for your application:
- Graduate School application fee: $30.
- Official transcripts –All applicants must submit official transcripts from all previously attended colleges/universities. Transcripts must be submitted in sealed envelopes directly from the respective institutions at the following address:

NOTE: Students who graduated from a U.S. institution may e-mail their transcripts to gradadm@fiu.edu - Proof of a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 in upper-division coursework is required. A notarized copy of the original diploma is required if the degree is not posted on the official transcripts.
- Recommendation letters – Submit two letters of recommendation to support the application. You’ll send a link to your references through the application.
- A 500-words essay describing your professional goals and reasons for pursuing a career in journalism.
- Your Résumé – Current and detailed.
International Students
- Proof of English Language Proficiency: If you earned a bachelor’s degree in a country whose official language is not English, you must demonstrate English language proficiency by earning a passing score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
TOEFL minimum: 550 (paper-based) or 80 (internet-based).
IELTS minimum: 6.5.
Duolingo minimum: 105.
When requesting scores, use FIU Institution code 5206. Scores are valid for two years.
