Susan Stautberg Civic Journalism Fellowship In Palm Beach County
The Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media is pleased to announce the Susan Stautberg Fellowship in Civic Journalism in Palm Beach County. Susan Stautberg is a philanthropist and civic leader whose career has focused on advancing women’s leadership, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. Ms. Stautberg was the first woman and one of the youngest journalists ever to head a Washington TV bureau. Through her generous support of the Fellowship in Civic Journalism, she is helping prepare the next generation of journalists to strengthen informed communities and public trust in local news.
The recipient of the Fellowship will serve as a part-time employee of a news organization in Palm Beach County for one year. The purpose of the Fellowship is to support meaningful experiential learning for early career journalists in covering local news, civic issues, and matters of community interest, consistent with the intent to advance public service journalism. This opportunity is open to recent graduates, senior students graduating before September 2026, or current graduate students at the Caplin School.
Eligibility
Candidates must:
- Be recent graduates of the Caplin School or currently enrolled in a Caplin School graduate program or planning to graduate no later than Summer 2026
- Have earned at least a 3.0 GPA at the Caplin School
- Have experience in producing video, audio, written stories and social media posts
- Have published work in Caplin News or other news organizations
- Have an interest in civic journalism
- Be self-motivated and willing to learn
- Be able to commute to Palm Beach County
- Have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
Preferred candidates will:
- Be able to produce content in both English and Spanish
